Medium Anti checkers

Medium Anti checkers is the default opponent for giveaway on Checkerso. Same rules as Anti checkers: you still must jump, and you win by having no move — or no pieces left.

Easy searches less. Hard searches more.

Giveaway rules at Medium

You win by having no legal move, or no pieces left. Movement matches American checkers — forced jumps still apply — but the result is reversed.

Medium Anti search depth

The Medium opponent searches with alpha-beta depth about 3 and extends into capture sequences (quiescence).

The evaluation is tuned for giveaway play — fewer of your pieces and fewer moves for you are better.

It catches straightforward threats but not every long combination.

Medium giveaway setups

Edge play

Pieces on the rim have fewer jump directions. Medium will dodge the most obvious center baits, but edge lanes can still force predictable captures.

Two-step sacrifices

Set up a giveaway that only works after your next move. Medium sees one ply deeper than Easy, so hide the payoff behind a quiet preparatory slide.

Do not hoard kings

Several kings give you mobility you do not want. Trade them into jump lines before Medium steers you into a position with safe moves left.

Frequently asked questions

What does Medium Anti checkers change compared with Easy?

Only search depth: about three plies with capture extensions. The giveaway win condition and mandatory jumps stay the same.

Can I choose which jump to make in Anti checkers?

Yes. When several jumps are legal, you may pick any of them — you are not required to take the longest line.

Why did I lose with pieces still on the board?

You lose when the opponent cannot move. In Anti checkers that can look like a win on the end card until you read the reason line.
